Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how CameraDoods ("CameraDoods," "we," "us") collects, uses, and — most importantly — shares information when you use the quote tool, calculator, and other features at this website (the "Site").

The information we collect

Information you give us. When you submit the quote form, we collect:

• Your name and email address
• Your phone number (optional) and ZIP code
• Details about the gear you want to sell: model, condition, shutter count where applicable, and any notes you add
• Optional information about gear you're interested in buying, used to show you relevant offers from our retail partners

If you contact us directly (for support or questions), we may also receive your name, email, the contents of your message, and anything else you choose to include.

Information we collect automatically. When you visit the Site, we and our service providers automatically collect certain usage information, including:

• Pages viewed, searches run, and the referring site or link that brought you here
• Approximate location derived from your IP address (typically city/region)
• Device type, browser, and operating system
• A device or cookie identifier used to recognize your browser across visits

Why we collect it

We use the information for two core purposes:

• To connect you with a retailer who buys used camera gear — this is the main function of CameraDoods.
• To operate, understand, and improve the Site — including analytics, fixing problems, preventing fraud or abuse, and responding to you.

We may also use your contact information to send you offers or information you've asked for or that we think may interest you. You can opt out of marketing messages at any time (see "Your choices" below).

Who we share it with — the important part

Retail partners (this is the core of what we do, and we're paid for it). When you submit the quote form, we share the contact information you provided (name, email, phone if given, ZIP) and your gear details (model, condition, shutter count, notes) with a third-party retailer who purchases used equipment. That retailer will use your details to contact you with an offer, arrange shipping, or ask follow-up questions.

We are paid a fee by the retailer for referring your submission to them. By submitting the quote form, you are asking us to pass your information to a buying partner, and you consent to that sharing. If you don't want that to happen, don't submit the form.

Because we receive payment in connection with this sharing, it may be considered a "sale" or "share" of personal information under California law (CCPA/CPRA) and similar state laws. See "Your privacy rights" below for how to opt out.

Service providers. We share information — including personal information — with vendors who run the Site on our behalf, such as our hosting and database providers, email/communications tools, and analytics providers. These providers process the data under contract, only to perform services for us, and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.

Advertising and analytics partners. We use analytics tools to understand how the Site is used. We also use, or plan to use, advertising technologies such as the Meta (Facebook) Pixel to measure and improve our marketing and to reach people who may be interested in our services. These partners may set their own cookies or tracking technologies and may collect usage information about your visit. Where required, we will ask for your consent before non-essential advertising or analytics trackers load — see "Cookies and tracking" below.

Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or where we believe it's necessary to investigate fraud, enforce our terms, or protect the rights, property, or safety of CameraDoods, our users, or others.

What we don't do

• We don't share your personal information with unrelated third parties for their own independent marketing without a lawful basis or your consent.
• We don't share your gear-quote contact details with anyone other than the buying retailer(s) and the service providers described above.

Cookies and tracking

The Site uses cookies and similar technologies for essential functions (making the site work), analytics (understanding traffic), and — now or in the future — advertising (such as the Meta Pixel).

Where required by law, non-essential cookies and trackers (including advertising and analytics pixels) will not load until you consent through our cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time. Most browsers also let you block or clear cookies in their settings; doing so won't break the quote tool.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information, including the right to:

• Know / access what personal information we hold about you
• Delete personal information we've collected from you
• Correct inaccurate personal information
• Port a copy of the information you provided, in a portable format
• Opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information

California residents (CCPA/CPRA). Because we are paid to refer your submission to a retail partner, that sharing may qualify as a "sale" or "share" under California law. You have the right to opt out. To opt out, email us at the address below with "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" in the subject line, or use any opt-out control we provide on the Site. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

Other U.S. states. Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws (including but not limited to Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Texas, Utah, and Virginia) have similar rights. As a matter of policy, we extend these core rights to all U.S. residents regardless of state.

EEA / UK (GDPR). If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, our lawful basis for sharing your quote details with a retail partner is your consent, given when you submit the form; our basis for analytics and marketing is consent and/or our legitimate interest in operating and improving the Site. You have rights of access, deletion, correction, portability, restriction, and objection, and the right to withdraw consent at any time.

A note on data we've already shared

When you exercise a deletion or opt-out right, we will act on the information we hold. Please note that once your quote details have been shared with a retail partner at your request, that retailer holds its own copy and processes it under its own privacy policy. On request, we will pass your deletion request along to the retailer we referred you to, but we can't control their systems directly.

Retention

We keep quote submissions for as long as needed to service the referral and for reasonable business records — typically up to 24 months — after which they are deleted or anonymized. Anonymized analytics may be kept longer. You can request deletion at any time.

Children

The Site is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we've collected information from a child under 13, we'll delete it. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us at the address below.

Security

We take commercially reasonable steps to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security. You provide information at your own risk.

U.S. data processing

CameraDoods operates in the United States, and information we collect is processed and stored in the U.S. and potentially other countries. By using the Site or submitting information, you consent to this transfer and processing, including in jurisdictions whose privacy laws may differ from those where you live.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the "last updated" date above and, where appropriate, post a notice on the Site. Your continued use of the Site after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
